Dominican Sunshine

The Caribbean sea is strung from end to end with beautiful little islands, each with their own individual climate, culture and idiosyncrasies.

Between Martinique and Guadeloupe there is a little island, sparkling green in a turquoise ocean. Blink and you would pretty much miss it.

At 29 miles long and 16 miles across at its widest point, Wai‘tu kubuli (in Kalinago) - more widely known as Dominica - is extraordinary, with its 365 rivers, the world’s second largest hot spring at Boiling Lake, and an array of active volcanoes with massive craters, including Morne Diablotins, the highest on the island at 1,447 m.

Dominica is smack in the middle of the hurricane region and gets a reasonably regular hammering from mother nature. It’s thick with jungle, rimmed with golden sandy beaches and is home to possibly the nicest people in the entire Caribbean.

We didn’t know much about it. We very nearly sailed straight past. I’m so glad we didn’t.

We were blown away by the hospitality of the people and the beauty of the island from the moment we dropped anchor in the bay.

I didn’t get the chance to paint en plein air on Dominica, so this tiny collection of painted memories is from sketches and photographs. We were only there for a week but a little piece of my heart has stayed on this incredible island, in exchange for some magical memories.

I am so happy to be able to share this collection with you. If you have been, you may recognise some of the places. If you haven’t these are little slices of sunshine for your home, and a promise to yourself to find a way there one day. This island is the closest thing to Eden that you will ever visit.

All the paintings are already framed. The sides of each one are painted in different colours, which glow against the offset frame.

Enjoy - and if you have any questions at all, please email or call me. Thank you in advance for all your support.

All these paintings of Dominica are painted in the highest quality oil paints onto canvas using traditional techniques. They can be hung in any part of your home without fear of fading or disintegrating (although you may not want to take them in the bath with you). They are already framed for you but if you would prefer them unframed, please let Emma know.

Shipping is available to most destinations worldwide.

Thank you for stopping by - I hope you found something you liked and look forward to hearing from you.
