In the Golden Morning Light

£200.00

The golden morning light - such a balm for the soul.

This was inspired by my morning runs in lockdown in the Netherlands.

I don’t even really like running, but I loved the fresh, cold breeze on my cheeks, the clouds of hot breath in the freezing air, the excuse to be out and about.

This is the view from the bridge by the Steam Engine Museum in Medemblik, a fine example of industrial revolution red brick architecture, a mighty building dating from a time when the Ijsselmeer could flood at any time - and did.

This is the view looking out across this vast body of water. It was quiet - no traffic, only an occasional person on an ubiquitous bicycle, greeting me with ‘hoi’ on their whirr past to work.

I stopped for a while, feeling the promise of warmth on my winter’s skin.

This is oil over acrylic and liquid gold leaf on a cradled wooden board.

20cm x 20cm x 3.5cm deep, unframed but ready to hang. This painting could also stand on a surface instead of hang on a wall.
