Leaving Medemblik
Leaving Medemblik
Leaving Medemblik. We never intended to stay so long, but one lockdown came after the other and before we knew it, we had started to put down some little roots.
This painting is therefore a little bittersweet - it represents all the hopes and dreams of voyages further afield, but also the relationships that you sever and have to repair when you uproot each time.
This nomadic, explorer lifestyle is not for the sentimental. We have promised to return. Until then, Medemblik remains blue and gold in our hearts. It’s a perfect little town, steeped in Dutch East India Company history, built in the days when this harbour entrance was open to the ravages of the North Sea.
This is a painting of freedom, beckoning.
